Akuch Deng Dut, who was in her third trimester, was in critical condition and urgently needed assistance. She was suffering from malnourishment, anemia, and malaria, which put her at risk for chronic falls and injuries due to dizziness. Upon learning about Ms. Dut’s situation, CIMISS’s trained healthcare ambassador acted immediately and took her for her first prenatal visit. Ms. Dut received treatment and was prescribed folic acid along with malaria medication. CIMISS then closely monitored her condition, regularly providing groceries and juice to address her malnourishment and reduce the chances of birth complications or mortality.
When Ms. Dut went into labor, CIMISS ensured she had transportation to the hospital with skilled birth attendants and covered her hospital expenses. CIMISS also ensured she had food during her first week of giving birth. CIMISS’s support allowed Ms. Dut to have a positive birthing experience without complications.
This impact is a testament to the difference your support can make. Your contribution, regardless of size, can create a significant impact. You have the power to help save the lives of vulnerable mothers and their infants in South Sudan. However, both Ms. Dut and her infant remain at risk for postpartum complications and mortality. This ongoing need for support highlights the importance of your continued involvement. They will need assistance for at least six more months.
CIMISS aims to help over twenty women per month this year in South Sudan, a country with one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. However, we cannot achieve this goal without your support. Reducing preventable deaths per woman costs $200. Your contributions to CIMISS can help save the lives of vulnerable mothers and their infants in South Sudan.
